DEAN CLOSE SCHOOL COMBINED CADET FORCE

The School's Combined Cadet Force (CCF) has a long and illustrious history. It was initially drawn up in the spring of 1909 as an Officer Training Corps and since that time has continued to train and develop its cadets to the highest standards.  It is proud of its long association with the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force.

CCF membership is compulsory from the Remove (Yr 10) for two years. During this time the cadets have the opportunity to develop their confidence, bearing, self-reliance and leadership skills.  It is not a recruitment tool for the armed forces but part of one of the leading youth movements in the UK. It uses the backdrop of military training to harness and develop life skills for those that take an active interest and the Contingent regularly participates in local and regional competitions.

The Contingent parades once each week during term time. During these sessions, cadets develop a basic understanding of map and compass work, field craft and skill at arms.  This is enhanced by flying, gliding, sailing and a host of outdoor pursuits.  Annual camp is compulsory for junior cadets and is seen as the highlight of the training cycle, offering cadets a wide range of experiences not available during the normal training routine.

CCF also utilises whole School field days which allow the opportunity to experience serving military establishments, museums, range days and adventure training activities. Uniform and equipment is issued on loan, except for boots, which can be purchased through the contingent at a discounted rate.
