Sixth Form

Life as a sixth former at Dean Close School holds a huge variety of opportunities. The world of choice opens up not only in academic terms, but also in the breadth of clubs, societies, roles of responsibility, entitlements and facilities solely for sixth formers.

  • On average, A level points scores are in excess of 3Bs per candidate. In 2007 the average was 1A and 2Bs.

  • 98% of pupils proceed to a traditional university. In the last three years, leavers' destinations have included: Bristol, Cambridge, Durham, Exeter, Imperial, Leeds, Manchester, Oxford, St Andrew's, Trinity Dublin, UCL, Warwick.

  • Wide-ranging academic possibilities are offered through 28 different AS/A2 level subjects.

  • There is a well-equipped sixth form social centre.

  • Regular opportunities arise to meet high profile visitors, some of the more recent being Jonathan Aitkin, Jeremy Bowen, Jilly Cooper, General the Lord Guthrie, William Hague, Sir Geoff Hurst, Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Robert Winston.

  • The Headmaster sits down individually with every sixth form pupil to assist with their UCAS form. Furthermore, a careers department is on hand for university and careers advice, counselling, testing, contacts and practical assistance.

  • Opportunities for responsibility and leadership abound.
