    Dean Close St John’s is a thriving independent, co-educational day and boarding school situated on a lovely countryside plot overlooking Chepstow.

    In June 2015 the School and nurseries were acquired by the Dean Close Group.  This is a very exciting time for St John’s and it is felt that this brand new post will offer lots of challenges and enjoyment.      

    This is a new, part-time position for an experienced, highly motivated, marketing professional to manage the day-to-day marketing activity of St John’s Nursery, Pre-prep and Preparatory School, and the two nurseries.  The candidate will report in to the Headmaster and also the Director of Marketing (based in Dean Close Senior School).

    We are looking for an Evening/ Saturday Cook who will cook healthy nutritious meals for Boarding pupils and staff during the term-time, as well as preparing and cooking lunches for children aged 0 to 5 years during the school holidays.

    The successful candidate is likely to have had experience of similar work in the past, although training could be provided for the right candidate. The ability to work on own initiative and the ability to work well under pressure is "a must" together with good interpersonal skills. High standards of cleanliness and hygiene are expected.

    Qualifications

    Basic Food Hygiene certificate together with a NVQ Level 1/2, 706/1 & 706/2 would be desirable.

    Accounting Apprentice (Billing Ledger or Purchase Ledger)

    Accounting Apprentice (Billing Ledger or Purchase Ledger)

    Full time 37.5 hours including weekly training day

    The Accounting Apprentice will be part of a ledger team (billing ledger or purchase ledger) tasked with the timely processing of invoices and ensuring the prompt settlement of accounts. Reporting to the Billing or Purchase Ledger Manager, the Accounting Apprentice will also assist with the prompt resolution of queries. Candidates should have some experience of using IT equipment for the input of data.

    Key Performance Indicators:

    To provide accurate and timely support to the Manager and Accounting Technician within the Billing Ledger or Purchase Ledger section.

    To assist in the smooth running of the Billing Ledger or Purchase Ledger section on a day to day basis.

    Delivering excellence in Customer Service

    Role Details:

    The post–holder is required to work with the internal finance team and other administrative staff. There will also be contact with the academic staff in the Schools and with the Bursar. The role be based in the Billing Ledger or the Purchase Ledger team in the first instance and will report to either the Billing or Purchase Ledger Manager (as appropriate). The Finance team within the Bursary is going through a restructuring at the present time and other finance duties may be assigned to these Accounting Apprentice roles in due course. To ensure the continuity of cover, there will also be the opportunity to cover the duties of your opposite number in the other Ledger team. Full training and support will be given.

    Depending on the ledger to which the post-holder is assigned, the duties of the role will involve but not be limited to the following:

    Billing Ledger

    • Assisting with the timely termly billing of fees and charges for the Schools
    • Assisting with the timely monthly billing of Nursery fees
    • Assisting with the timely billing of customers of Dean Close Services Ltd
    • Assisting with credit control activities to ensure the prompt settlement of outstanding accounts within the Foundation’s terms of business

    Purchase Ledger

    • Assisting with the resolution of purchase order queries
    • Assisting with the timely processing of purchase ledger invoices
    • Assisting with the prompt settlement of supplier accounts within their terms of business
    •  Assisting with supplier statement reconciliation to ensure that all invoices are accounted for
    • To assist in the processing of other expense transactions such as staff expense claims

    Qualifications: GCSE English and Mathematics or equivalent (for Level 2) or an A-Level in Mathematics if no previous accounting experience (for Level 3)

    Other Skills and Qualifications

    Professionalism, self-motivation, ability to handle multiple priorities and to take instructions.

    Experience of using Microsoft Word and Excel or equivalent packages (desirable).

    Terms and Conditions

    The salary for this post will be in line with statutory rates for apprentices. The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week (Monday- Friday), with additional hours from time to time to meet the demands of the role. Some evening and week end duties may be required. Annual leave is 25 days per annum (pro-rata for the duration of the contract), plus statutory holiday and holiday to be taken with the prior agreement of the Bursar. Lunch is available on the Foundation premises during School term time and there is ample parking on the Foundation premises.

    Science Teacher (Maternity Cover)

    The successful candidate is likely to teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Year 9 and IGCSE levels and demonstrate the ability to motivate pupils at this age group. It will be important that the successful candidate can take over exam and non-exam groups, inspiring their confidence and ensuring a smooth transition of teaching responsibilities.

    The Science Department has 9 laboratories, with 9 full time and two part-time teachers. All of the current staff teach Year 9 and it is expected that will continue. There are three technicians, one dedicated to each of the Sciences. Each has a separate prep room.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Very good standard of education, an Honours Degree in a relevant subject (and preferably a teaching qualification)

    • Experience of teaching Science in a Senior School, preferably with some co-educational experience

    • Proven ability to teach Year 9 Science

    To support the work of the Sports Centre Manager for Dean Close Services, by overseeing the Commercial Lets use of the Dean Close Sports facilities.

    The primary role is to manage the Commercial Lets when using the pool and adjacent sports hall during commercial periods. There is also an opportunity for Lifeguarding.

    Responsibilities

    • Carry out reception work: dealing with visitors & hirers using the pool, sports hall and changing rooms, responding to hirer’s and visitors enquiries

    • To oversee the crossover of use between school and external lets

    • Ensuring the facilities are ready for external let’s use to include pool testing and supporting the running of plant (training to be given) & setting up of equipment

    • To adhere to Normal Operating Procedures (NOPS’s) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and ensure that users of the pool are abiding by these

    • Clean wet and dry facilities. To ensure the sports facilities are safe, clean and presentable at all times

    • Administer first aid and to be able to support the lifeguard in case of an incident

    • The ability to Lifeguard would be desirable but not essential for this role

    • Locking the site which includes applying the pool cove and securing the building

    • Reporting of maintenance issues in order to maintain the commercial lets operation and standards

    • Assist in the sports hall and with other sports facilities as and when required

    • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade of the post, properly directed by the line manager or other senior management

    These are zero hours contracts and you will be required to work within the sports facilities commercial opening times.

    Typically Term Time (34 weeks) Pool hours are:

    • Plus school holiday at varying times. On average 8 hours a week.

    Salary           

    The salary for this post it £10.00 per hour to include holiday pay. Please note that due to the Health and Safety requirements of this role, applicants must be over 18 years at the time of appointment.

    Training

    Undergo training as required in order to fulfil the role. Training can be given for First Aid and Lifeguarding if the required certificates are not held.
