    Instrumental Hire

There are a number of school instruments available for hire.

After an initial trial period parents are recommended to purchase instruments for their children rather than hire as this is financially beneficial in the long term.

    • Scholars receive 30 lessons over the academic year.
    • The length of each lesson is 35 minutes, although more advanced pupils may receive lessons of an hour's duration on request or advice from the department.
    • Timetables for lessons are published on the Music Department notice board at the start of each term
    • Scholars in 4th and Remove may need to miss academic lessons for their music lessons. However, this is scheduled on a rota system so that scholars do not miss the same academic lesson more than twice a term. Lessons on a second instrument will always take place during non-academic times.
    • All who take music lessons are encouraged to perform in lunchtime recitals and to enter the annual instrumental music competition.

Free tuition is given to music scholars and exhibitioners on their main instruments.

Instrumental awards may be given to:

    • scholars who have reached a very high standard on their instrument (normally post Grade 8) and who regularly perform either as part of a group or as a soloist
    • scholars whose contribution to various groups/ensembles is deemed invaluable due to their instrument being in demand
    • scholars whose contribution to a variety of musical activities demonstrates a very high level of commitment and is of enormous value to the department
