Drama

“Be transported to a Midsummer Night’s Dream, Private Peaceful or the Railway Children,
watching a Dean Close Prep School production is sheer escapism. The standard of acting and production is astounding and if you haven’t attended one of their incredible school plays, you are missing out. I urge you to find out when the next performance is and reserve tickets immediately, the last production was sold out in days!”

Drama is a valuable part of the curriculum at Dean Close Preparatory School. As well as being about theatre, improvisation and presentation skills, it encourages confidence, communication, empathy and humour. It can bring out the ‘lion’ in the quietest child and develop self-discipline and humility in the most outspoken. A great deal can be learnt from being something or someone else, even if just for a moment.

At the Prep School pupils can enjoy class drama or have private drama lessons and there are plenty of opportunities to perform. Pupils can recite or perform at the termly performance platforms, participate in one of the fabulous school productions or audition for external roles.

Whilst performing can be easier for some pupils than others we celebrate the achievements of all our pupils, whether they are treading the boards for the first time or taking the lead in the school play, each and every pupils' experience is important.

Speech and Drama at DCPS is a lively, exciting and thriving discipline and the aim is to instil an appreciation and enjoyment of communication and performance and to maximise the potential of all pupils.
