Art Overview

Art is a vital and thriving subject at Dean Close where dedicated students often excel beyond their own expectations.  Pupils are encouraged to be ambitious and independent in their creative responses and opportunities are available to work with a wide range of media and techniques, including ceramics, painting, printmaking, photography and IT, with a Fine Art emphasis.

The Art School is a fantastic purpose-built facility which offers excellent studio spaces and designated work areas for seniors. The integrated BonBernard gallery plays host to external and internal exhibitions throughout the year and has even showcased work by Picasso and David Hockney in recent years.

Visiting artists, workshops and trips locally and further afield all serve to enrich the experiences of our pupils at GCSE and A level.

Results are consistently high at all levels and many of our leavers gain places as some of the country’s top Art schools including The Slade (UCL), Central Saint Martins, Chelsea School of Art and The Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL).
